"Printmaking provides both an inspiration in itself, and a means of expression. The energies and forms of the natural world are the starting point for much of my work There is a constant recurrence of visual motifs and symbols, associated with the mythic cycles of nature and life.

Finding the right printmaking process with which to express an idea can come easily, or on occasions, seem like a lengthy struggle. Sometimes a chance magic occurs, which is the fascination of printmaking. Many of my original prints are unique pieces.

Contrast is a recurring element in my work and I am always exploring different processes and developing new themes, albeit with an underlying coherence derived from the inspiration of living in Wales. My narrative imagery and detailed miniature prints are satisfyingly different to the open spaciousness I seek in my abstract work.

My collages often combine many different processes of original print. They offer me a chance to integrate different types of printing substrates into one work, including bas relief print fragments. The resulting artworks are again unique pieces."

Judith Stroud’s early years were spent in various parts of Africa. Returning home to Britain, she graduated in Fine Art painting and printmaking at the West of England College of Art, Bristol. A career in teaching art helped inform and inspire wide-ranging ideas for her own work, which is achieving success and recognition and is in collections in the USA, Australia, France and Britain
